BOARD BUZZ

The St. Louis Rebel’s Board held its regular meeting October 12, 2009. The following issues were announced and discussed:

*The financial report submitted by our bookkeeper, Lisa, was all good news. And thanks to the “penny” pinching actions of Penny, MMISL financially was a success as well.

*MMISL: Due to the support of the St. Louis Rebels, the 2009 Meet Me in St. Louis Swing Dance Championships was a huge success, both in terms of entertainment and financially. Therefore, the Rebels and MMISL are offering this Saturday’s three hour Pro Workshop series with Ann Marie and Jason FREE to current club members. The entire weekend is only $15 for members, which includes the Friday night workshop and dance, Saturday workshops, and Saturday dinner and dance. If you are not a club member, it is not too late to join and take advantage of this offer!

The Board will be meeting to discuss issues related to MMISL. If you have any comments, complaints, suggestions, or accolades, submit them to one of the board members.

*Please stay for the Members Meeting Saturday 10/24 at 1pm after the workshops.

*Don’t forget Friday 10/30 is the Halloween Dance. Costumes are encouraged.

*Plan to attend the Rebel’s MAFIA WARS New Year’s Eve celebration at the Stratford. Attend dressed as your favorite mafia family and be prepared for games, dancing, and cash prizes. The $40 ticket includes hats and party favors, food and drinks, plus champagne at midnight. Space is limited and tickets are now on sale.

*Heather is contacting Pros and arranging schedules for next year. Some of the Pros we will be inviting are Jason Barnes and Erica Berg, John Lindo, Doug Rousar, Angel Figueroa, Ben Morris and Melina Ramirez, Kyle Redd and Sarah Vann Drake, Brandi Tobias and Ronnie Debenedetta. Scheduling will depend on availability. Be sure to check out their styles on youtube and plan to schedule privates when they are in town.

*Nominations for the December Elections will begin in November for the term starting January 1, 2010. Positions that will be elected include: President, Secretary, and five Members-at-Large. Specific assignments are selected by the Members-at-Large and voted on by the Board at the January meeting. Additional responsibilities include set-up, closing, and working at the register on Fridays, workshops, and Saturday dances; promoting the Club at out-of-town events and activities; and supporting MMISL. The MMISL Event Director and the Rebel’s Webmaster will be appointed at the November board meeting to begin their term January 1st.

*Our finance committee has been selected to set the budget for next year. We are developing ideas to “give back to our members.”

*Keith, our Social Director, is looking at ways to support the club members who travel to out-of-town events. This will be discussed at the budget meetings. We are interested in knowing which events members plan to attend next year. *Just a reminder: Armbands are being issued to dancers on Friday nights. This slows down the admission process a bit, so please be patient.

To receive a copy of the approved minutes of any Board meeting, please contact one of the Executive Board Members. Board meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Stratford Inn. We welcome comments and concerns. These can be presented to the Board by completing the questionnaire available at the front table of the Friday night dances.
